Why getting fit properly for spikes is so important
Getting the correct fit for a spike shoe is very different to a running shoe. The fit also depends on the distance and surface you are running on. For example 100 metres on a tartan track for a competent sprinter requires a precise fit. The big toe should be sitting over the front spike pin. The stiffer the spike the more force you can apply to the surface you are running on (hence move faster)
However a spike for 3,000 metres will invariably fit a little looser with more emphasis on the forefoot being in contact with more of the spike pins as the foot strike patter is completely different.
