Running Science has an in-store Podiatry and Running clinic, staffed by Phil de Mestre. He provides detailed biomechanical assessments for treatment and prevention of injuries to the foot and lower limb. Separate to this he also performs comprehensive Running Assessments. 

Podiatry, or podiatric medicine, is a branch of allied health devoted to the study of, diagnosis, and medical treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle & lower extremities. A podiatrist is a health professional who deals with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of medical and surgical conditions of the feet and lower limbs.

At Running Science, we focus on lower limb biomechanics, footwear, running technique, and use cutting edge techniques to capture accurate diagnosis. Some common conditions Phil treats include; heel pain, plantar fasciitis, shin splints, Sever’s disease, stress fractures, flat feet, sesamoiditis, Achilles and tendinitis and other muscle tendinopathy, osteoarthritis, Morton’s Neuroma, forefoot pain, bunions, runners knee (patella femoral and ITB).

FIRST APPOINTMENT

Your first appointment with our Sports Podiatrist will involve a full physical examination of the lower limb and treadmill video gait analysis. The Podiatry initial consultation runs for approximately 40 mins and may include some of the following.

  • Assessment of mechanical causes of lower limb pain, and a dynamic pelvis assessment

FOLLOW-UP APPOINTMENT

The follow up consultation will vary depending on condition being treated or findings from the initial consultation. This will be discussed in your first consultation.

BIOMECHANICAL RUNNING ASSESSMENT

Getting into running? Or are you an elite runner after a performance edge? No matter what level of runner you are, our comprehensive video running analysis is for you. 

This assessment involves video analysis from multiple angles, running technique advice and performance training tips. Specific advice on footwear options that will be suited to technique changes will also be given.

This assessment is particularly useful for those suffering ongoing niggling injuries or who want to reduce their injury risk. The session runs for 45-60 mins. Health fund rebates may apply.
